Anthony "Tone" Gremsley, a lawyer, only had to make one phone call early in 1996 to get the Crimns started. That call was to his old mate
Joey "Mongo" Marsch, president of the oldest rugby club in the state.
Over 75 players showed for the tryouts. What he assembled was a side full of athletic, fun-loving characters. Among them were a
pair of twin brothers of Norwegian roots from rural southern Minnesota.
Tom "High" Rasmussen and Jon"Low" Rasmussen, at 6'6" and 6'5", respectively, with blond locks that glisten in the sun, make for a
very formidable pair of locks.
During the line-outs, they take turns boosting each other to steal the toss-in and are particularly adroit at barging through,
right over any would be tacklers.
The Crimns are a forwards team, relying heavily on them to control the ball and set up scoring situations. This constant
pressure and relentless pursuit of the ball forced the opposition to make mistakes that produced scores for the Crimns.
They were in every game they played this season, but you also need a bit of luck once in a while. They finished with a
8-7 record. Oh, the name "Crimns" is some sort version of Tone's old New Zealand family name.
